Luka’s day starts early with an 8km bike ride to Project Search at Burwood Hospital.
The early start is no deterrent for him. He loves jumping on his ebike and rushing off to his internship. His bike gives him independence coupled with pride!
Luka has had a great year. He finished High School at Papanui High, turned nineteen and is transitioning into work.
He has picked up several accolades along the way. Luka was a finalist in the NZ Attitude Awards and was the Winner at the 2021 Waitaha-Canterbury Youth Awards for diversity and inclusion.
Luke loves sport – and he’s good at it! Swimming is his passion. He was awarded the Zonta award for top Secondary School Sportsperson with a disability in Canterbury. He swims with his local swim club Jasi and is a regular at swim meets both locally and nationally.
Luka has a Classification in Para swimming and has just been selected to swim for New Zealand at the Virtus Games in Brisbane in November. This is such a well-earned honour!
In addition to his swimming, his ebike has been fantastic for Luka’s health and fitness and takes him places he’d never get to go otherwise. The bike was chosen specifically for him. It’s strong and durable, has an extensive battery life and is the perfect size for Luka’s weight and height.
